Salvation through Christ

What do you think happens to a person when they die? The Bible says “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment“. That is a profound statement, and it should be taken seriously because the Bible is the word of God. Everyday 150,000 people die and unfortunately many will receive God’s Judgment because they have violated His laws in which everyone is held accountable. So what must you do to have eternal life?

SECTION ONE: All have sinned against God’s perfect Righteousness

Do you agree that you have not kept God’s law? This requires an honest evaluation of yourself. God expects us to obey His laws, but have you kept them perfectly? The Ten Commandments (God’s law) is a way for you to examine your life and compare it to God’s expectation. So here’s a quick test. Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, used God’s name as a cuss word, or entertained lustful desires outside of a martial relationship? For Jesus said “But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart“. The Bible says “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. None of us are good enough to escape God’s judgment because we have all broken Gods law.

Matthew 5:28, I John 3:15, I Corinthians 6:9-10; Romans 2:18, 3:23, 5:12; James 2:10, Revelation 20:13-15

    The Ten Commandments

  1. You shall have no other gods but me.
  2. You shall not make or worship idols.
  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
  4. You shall remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.
  5. Honor your mother and father.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness.
  10. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

Do you agree that according to God’s standard, you are not a good person in the eyes of God? Friend, from a human viewpoint you may very well be a good person, an outstanding citizen, but are you good in the eyes of God? He will use the law, the Ten Commandments to judge our most intimate thoughts and actions. Do you fear/respect the righteous judgment of God? Imagine yourself striped naked before God and no one was able to stand in your defense, is there anything you can do to justify yourself as worthy to a Holy God? An honest answer would be no, but only by His mercy; and that my friend is the message of the cross.

Exodus 20:3-17; Mark 10:18; Romans 2:13, 3:19, 3:23

Do you agree that God would be just in sending you to Hell for eternity? The punishment for sinning against God is eternity in Hell. It’s a place of eternal torment. The problem is, God who is without sin must righteously condemn sinners. Does this concern you? It should, because you are guilty of breaking God’s law and deserve to receive eternal death. You and I might consider someone as a nice person but because they fall short of God’s standard they are still going to Hell if they reject Christ. It is full of people who have disobeyed God by breaking the law.

Imagine that your standing in a court of law, guilty of a serious crime. Will the Judge let you go free because your sorry and promise not to do it again? No, of course not. However, if the one person who can help you pays your fine and sets you free, would you be grateful to that person for your freedom in which you didn’t earn or deserve?

Romans 2:5-6, 14:11, I Corinthians 6:9-10, Revelation 21:8; Psalms 51:4, Revelation 20:13-14, Acts 2:37-38, Luke 5:8

SECTION TWO: Justification through Faith alone

Do you agree that salvation is offered through Jesus Christ alone? Salvation according to the Bible is not a commitment to any religious belief but in Jesus Christ alone. We must come to God through Jesus Christ and seek His forgiveness, there are no other means of salvation.

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became a man to live the perfect life, and was then nailed to the cross, shed His blood, and then died as a ransom for those who believe. He took their punishment for breaking God’s law and paid the full price. He then rose from the dead as proof of God’s acceptance. Pray that God will draw you into faith and repentance in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.

The Holy Spirit makes the sacrifice of Jesus Christ effective for one’s salvation by bringing them to faith and repentance. The Holy Spirit empowers God’s people to willingly obey the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray that the Holy Spirit will convict you to repent of your sins and then to trust alone in Jesus Christ for salvation. Only then will God grant you the gift of eternal life.
